Degree Changes from Music Major to Music Minor or Non-Music Major
Main Content
- Music Majors intending to change to a Music Minor or other non-music degree should notify their Applied Lessons Teacher and Primary Advisor of their intent.
- Music Majors intending to change to a Music Minor are required to complete the Music Minor Interest Form.
- The Primary Advisor will assist students with the degree changes as necessary. They
may also inform the student of the potential impact to their financial aid:
- Music Minors and Non-Majors are not eligible for a SoM Scholarship
- Music Minors and Non-Majors may be eligible to extend their ensemble scholarships—either the full amount or a reduced amount—through the procedure outlined in steps 6-7 below.
- The Student, Applied Lessons Teacher, and/or the Primary Advisor will notify the Coordinator of Undergraduate Studies and Coordinator of Admissions of the student’s intent to change degrees, as appropriate.
- The Coordinator of Admissions will notify the Ensemble Director, Division Chair, and Applied Lessons Teacher about the student’s intent to change degrees.
- The Ensemble Director, Division Chair, and Applied Lessons Teacher will determine
the student’s eligibility for an extension of ensemble scholarships through:
- A performance evaluation (e.g., through barrier or jury)
- A review of their academic standing (e.g., good student standing, satisfactory participation
in lessons/ensembles etc.)
All evaluations and scholarship extension recommendations must be made to the Coordinator of Admissions in a timely fashion and no later than the end of the semester (final exam period) in which the student declares their degree change. If these recommendations are not made, the student will be assumed ineligible for extended aid.
- The Coordinator of Admissions will notify the student and TCU Financial Aid of any required scholarship changes.
- Students may appeal scholarship changes with the Director.
