The Division of Piano is nationally recognized, with renowned faculty who are accomplished artists and scholars, offering comprehensive programs in piano performance, collaborative piano and piano pedagogy.

You’ll perform in weekly recitals, attend master classes with international artists and compete for the opportunity to perform a concerto with the TCU Symphony Orchestra. You’ll also participate in chamber music ensembles and community outreach programs that support local schools.

Collaborative Piano

As a collaborative piano major, your course of study is tailored to your individual strengths and goals, preparing you for a dynamic career in collaborative performance:

  • Perform in ensembles, music theatre and opera productions
  • Conduct studio and master classes
  • Participate in vocal and instrumental assignments, with the option to specialize in one area.
  • Engage in jury performances for vocal and instrumental students
  • Perform in the end-of-semester collaborative piano recital
  • Play two graduate recitals, each at least 50 minutes in length, and assist in degree recitals for both undergraduate and graduate colleagues.

Piano Pedagogy

For those passionate about teaching the blend of theory, technique, style and creativity in piano pedagogy, pursuing a degree in this field offers the opportunity to shape the next generation of musicians.

Piano Pedagogy Facilities

  • The Piano Pedagogy Resource Center: The center offers piano pedagogy students a dedicated space to study, practice, and prepare for coursework and teaching assignments. It features a growing collection of teaching materials, standard literature, and resources for sight reading, technique, theory, and ear training.
  • The Pedagogy Teaching Studio: Offers a dedicated space for pedagogy students to teach in the Pedagogy Laboratory Program, music preparatory, and college non-major courses, featuring a Steinway grand piano.
  • The Music Preparatory Library: houses a wide variety of teaching and standard literature which serves as a reference library for all music prep teachers.
  • The Music Preparatory Computer Lab: Offers sessions for students in the music prep department, featuring popular music theory software and MIDI accompaniments.

Applicants must complete both the general TCU admission application and a separate School of Music application, which includes a required prescreening video. Selected candidates will be invited to audition on campus.
