Applicants will be notified if they advance to the audition round to perform on campus. Applicants invited to audition will be considered for scholarships and graduate assistantships.

Vocal Performance 

Audition candidates will be tested on tonal memory and understanding of lyric diction rules/pronunciations in French, German and Italian. Applicants must have completed intermediate French, German, or Italian or demonstrate equivalent proficiency.

  • Upload recordings with piano accompaniment for the same repertoire listed below for the audition.

Performed with a piano accompanist*:

  • One selection must be in English.
  • Selections should include art songs and arias (oratorio, operatic, chamber music selections).
  • One piece must be written after 2000.
  • All selections must be sung from memory.

* An accompanist will be provided for voice auditions, or you may bring your own. High-quality copies of the piano scores must be uploaded as a PDF with the School of Music admission application at least 14 days before the audition.

Cognate in Voice Pedagogy

Audition candidates will be tested on tonal memory and understanding of lyric diction rules/pronunciations in French, German and Italian. Applicants must have completed intermediate French, German, or Italian or demonstrate equivalent proficiency.

  • Upload recordings with piano accompaniment for the same repertoire listed below for the audition.
  • Submit a 15-minute video recording of a private lesson. International students should include a demonstration of their ability to teach in English.

  • One selection must be in English.
  • Selections should include art songs and arias (oratorio, operatic, chamber music selections).
  • One piece must be written after 2000.
  • All selections must be sung from memory.
