Cello Studio
The Cello Studio provides extensive guidance and performance opportunities through lessons, studio classes, masterclasses, solo recitals, chamber music ensembles and more.
The Cello Studio features Allan Steele, principal cellist of the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, who teaches orchestra excerpts. You'll thrive in a supportive environment, sharing challenges and successes while forming lifelong friendships.
The cello ensemble combines solo, chamber and orchestral techniques, emphasizing intonation, coordination, balance, communication, and projection in both conducted and non-conducted settings.
Comprised of undergraduate and graduate students, the ensemble performs a diverse repertoire, including works by Albinoni, Bach, Verdi, Barber, Brubeck, Joplin and Mainardi.
Expanding the repertoire is a key focus of the ensemble. Notable performances include:
- “Secret Land” by Tan Dun
- “Canto a Garcia Lorca” by Marlos Nobre
- “Waltz” by Martin Blessinger
- “Symphony for Cellos” by Blaise Ferrandino
- “Anxieties of the Heart and Broken Solitude” by Robert Garwell
- “Urban Ragas” by Till Meyn
All cello majors must enroll in the ensemble, and non-cello majors may audition to join.
