Applicants will be notified if they advance to the audition round to perform on campus. Applicants invited to audition will be considered for scholarships and graduate assistantships.
Euphonium
- Two contrasting solo selections (with or without piano).
- Two excerpts from standard orchestra, band, or jazz repertoire.
- Three contrasting solo works (separate movements or different compositions).
- Five excerpts from standard orchestra, band, or jazz repertoire.
- One étude of choice.
- Tuba applicants must prepare one étude of their choice from Phil Snedecor’s Low Etudes for Tuba or Low(er!) Etudes for Tuba.
- Possible sight-reading.
- Piano accompaniment suggested for live DMA auditions.
- Live auditions last approximately 30 minutes.
- All DMA applicants must attend a live audition.

- Brahms: Symphony #1
- Holst: The Planets
- Verdi: Otello
- Strauss, R.: Ein Heldenleben
- Ravel: L’Enfant et les Sortileges
- 10-minute demonstration of one-on-one teaching ability
- Five-minute demonstration of proficiency on a doubling instrument or genre (e.g., alto trombone, tenor trombone, bass trombone, euphonium, tuba, or jazz improvisation)
Bass Trombone
- Full-length recital (40 min) from contrasting style periods, including one of the
following works:
- Wilder: Sonata for Bass Trombone
- White: Tetra Ergon
- Casterede: Fantaisie Concertante
- Five orchestral excerpts comparable in difficulty to:
- Brahms: Symphony #1 (Bass Trombone)
- Bartok: Miraculous Mandarin
- Verdi: Otello
- Strauss, R.: Ein Heldenleben
- Respighi: Fountains of Rome
- 10-minute demonstration of one-on-one teaching ability
- Five-minute example of proficiency on a doubling instrument or genre (e.g., alto trombone, tenor trombone, etc.)
