The TCU Horn Studio is a dynamic group of young musicians who are pursuing careers and opportunities in music as performers, composers, arrangers, and educators. With a small size, students receive personalized attention from faculty mentors as they are guided in their education.
The TCU Horn Studio Ensemble meets monthly on Wednesdays at noon to rehearse for upcoming performances and to experience the many benefits chamber music has to offer. The ensemble performs unique repertoire that ranges from classical to contemporary arrangements and original compositions. The TCU Horn Studio Ensemble has performed at the Texas Music Educators Association convention in San Antonio, Texas in the Exhibitor’s Showcase series twice and has been a featured ensemble at the TCU HornFest for 9 years.
TCU Select Horn Ensemble
The TCU Select Horn Ensemble was established in January 2017. The group was born out of the TCU Horn Studio Ensemble as a way to expand on the difficulty and mastery of chamber playing. These select studio members audition and interview to gain membership to the elite group. Personnel in the 2017 Ensemble include graduate and undergraduate performance, education and composition majors. The group made its debut performance at HornFest 2017, featuring a newly commissioned work by TCU alumnus, Tyler David Creel. The ensemble annually tours North Texas area high schools, where the members exhibit the many disciplines of an emerging professional musician; conducting, performing, arranging and composing.
HornFest is an annual event including concerts, coaching and masterclasses. The event features well-known artists investing in students and a high school horn solo competition.TCU HornFest
