String/Orchestra Pedagogy

Patrick Leaverton is currently the Professor of String Education at TCU following his retirement from Texas public schools after 30 years of service.  During that time he taught in Arlington ISD for 25 years and was the String Specialist for Fort Worth ISD for 5 years.  He has taught all levels of orchestra, including 10 years at Lamar High School where he was privileged to be the associate conductor of the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) Honor Full Orchestra in 2004.  As the String Specialist for Fort Worth ISD Leaverton supervised all the orchestra, mariachi and guitar programs in all 45 secondary schools in the district.  Leaverton served on the Executive Board of the Texas Orchestra Directors Association, including serving as President in 2013-14.  He also was the TMEA Region Orchestra Chair for Region 5 three terms and was UIL contest chair for Region V for both solo and ensemble contest and UIL concert/sightreading assessment.  As a member of the Texas Music Adjudicators Association Leaverton has evaluated ensembles throughout Texas.  He has presented clinics at TMEA and the Mid-West Music Convention and has led staff development at many school districts across Texas.
