Mariel Zúñiga studied Piano Performance at the National University of Costa Rica (UNA.) In 2013, she started teaching at the Mercedes Norte Municipal Music School, a community music school created by the Government of Costa Rica’s Ministry of Public Education. This was where she discovered how much she loves teaching piano.
In 2014, she ended in 2nd place on the American Protégé Talent Competition; therefore, she had the opportunity to play in New York City. Then, also in 2014, she participated in the Música en Compostela, an International University Course of Spanish Music, in Spain. In 2016, she won an honorable mention in the Century Music Competition. In 2017, she obtained the 2nd place of the American Fine Arts Concerto Competition; therefore, she played with the Kostromá Symphony Orchestra in Russia. Also, during this same year, she won the Plasmando Huellas Competition; the prize was to record a piece on a CD. In summer 2019, she performed in FIJAZZ, an international jazz festival. Currently, she is pursuing her master degree in Piano Pedagogy in Texas Christian University.
