About

A native of Lancaster, Ohio, Lydia Sander currently studies piano pedagogy and performance at Texas Christian University as a graduate teaching assistant and student of Harold Martina. Highlighted artistic achievements include performing as collaborative pianist with the Ohio University Women’s Ensemble at OMEA (2020) and being awarded first place in the 2020 OMTA Graves Adult Piano Duet/Duo competition with duo partner, Olivia Connors.

Lydia has performed as a solo artist in various competitions, recitals, churches, and special events, also collaborating with instrumentalists, vocalists, choirs, and dancers. During her undergraduate career, she held vibrant piano studios in both Lancaster and Athens, Ohio while serving in leadership positions within multiple university organizations. Lydia’s undergraduate capstone thesis, titled Conversations and Collaborations: The Impact of Interdisciplinary Arts in Pre-College Piano Pedagogy was recently published and is available to view online.

Also a proficient harpist, Lydia has been awarded multiple honors for her performances. Notable engagements include collaborations with The Ohio University Symphony Orchestra, The Cardinal Health Orchestra, NPAC’s 2018 production of The Fantasticks, as well as performances for The Ohio Society Daughters of the American Revolution conferences and events and The Lancaster Celtic Festival.

Lydia holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music degree from Ohio University Honors Tutorial College as well as the Ohio University Certificate in Entrepreneurship. Former piano instructors include Dr. Emely Phelps, Dr. Christopher Fisher, and Dr. Stephanie Wu.
