TCU Vocal Jazz Ensemble Performs at SWACDA Convention
The TCU Vocal Jazz Ensemble was selected to perform at the Southwestern American Choral Directors Association (SWACDA) Convention, a prestigious and highly competitive honor that recognizes excellence in collegiate choral performance. Chosen through a rigorous audition process featuring recordings from multiple years of live performances, the ensemble represented TCU among top programs from across the region.
At the convention, students performed for an audience of musicians, educators and industry professionals, showcasing the artistry and dedication that define the School of Music.
“Performing at SWACDA was definitely one of the highlights of my time here,” Talyah Thomas, junior music major, said. “Both on and off stage, every moment was meaningful.”
The experience also provided opportunities to connect with peers, hear other ensembles and engage with the broader choral community.
In addition to their performance, the ensemble participated in a service visit to Steelbridge Ministries, a local homeless shelter, where they shared music and spent time with residents. For many students, the visit became one of the most powerful aspects of the trip.
“It was a reminder of the healing and hope that music can foster,” senior Dory McDonald said, reflecting on the impact of the experience.
