TCU Theatre Professor Directs Urinetown for Uptown Players

Professor of Theatre Penny Maas is directing Uptown Players' production of Urinetown: The Musical, the Tony Award-winning satire known for its sharp humor, social commentary and playful references to classic Broadway musicals.

Maas first experienced Urinetown during its original off-Broadway run in 2001 and has been a fan ever since. “It's this love letter to musical theater,” she said, noting the show's playful references to classics like West Side Story, Les Misérables and Fiddler on the Roof.

The production marks Maas' fourth musical with Uptown Players and reflects her continued engagement with the professional theatre community alongside her work at TCU.
