TCU Alumnus Expands Access to Music Education in Fort Worth

Nate Krieger ’01 is helping make music education more accessible across Fort Worth as executive director of the Fort Worth After School Music Academy (FWASMA), a nonprofit dedicated to providing affordable music instruction and removing barriers to participation.

A communication graduate and music minor, Krieger has spent his career immersed in the arts as a performer, arts administrator and advocate. Under his leadership, FWASMA has expanded beyond its roots as a bell choir program to offer instruction in voice, piano, strings, guitar and other instruments, while partnering with local schools to provide instruments, transportation and scholarships for students who might not otherwise have access to music education.

“We eliminate any financial barrier that gets in the way of music,” Krieger told Fort Worth Weekly. “Music is not a privilege. It should be available for everyone.”
