TCU MFA Alumna Lucia Simek Named Glasstire Guest Editor
Lucia Simek ’14 is drawing on her experience as an artist, writer and arts leader in a new role as guest editor of Glasstire, a publication dedicated to visual art in Texas. A longtime contributor to the publication, Simek recently spoke with Glasstire about her approach to arts writing, advocacy and the evolving creative landscape across the state.
Simek earned her Master of Fine Arts in sculpture from the TCU School of Art and wrote for Glasstire while pursuing her graduate degree. She went on to hold leadership positions at the Nasher Sculpture Center and Dallas Contemporary while continuing to advocate for artists and the North Texas arts community through her writing.
“I wrote for it when I was a young whippersnapper before and during my time in graduate school at TCU, when I was deep in a studio practice and around other artists all the time,” Simek said. “Back then, I loved that there was a way to advocate for my community through the written word.”
As guest editor, Simek plans to focus particular attention on art schools, artist-run spaces and emerging artists across Texas, exploring how creative communities are developing new ways to support artists and their work.
