Ian Loveall Creates Immersive Worlds Through Scenic Design
Associate Professor of Theatre Ian Loveall, M.F.A., served as associate scenic designer in collaboration with Las Vegas–based Andy Walmsley Entertainment, contributing to a large-scale immersive environment for a corporate event for an artificial intelligence company.
Loveall has been invited to return for another major collaboration with the same production designer, this time for Royal Caribbean’s Icon of the Seas, the largest cruise ship in the world and the second in the line’s Icon class. He previously worked with Walmsley Entertainment on the inaugural Icon’s Wizard of Oz show, which launched in 2024. The new project will remain under wraps until its debut in 2026.
“I often remind our design and tech students that scenic design isn’t limited to the stage; we work in many contexts,” Loveall shared.
“Anywhere there’s an environment to be designed and built around a specific narrative — whether it’s a story for stage or screen, a corporate brand experience, a museum installation, or even a video game world — you’ll find a scenic designer.”
