This past summer and fall, Assistant Professor of Design Rhonda Schaller, M.F.A., showed her design practice and scholarship internationally.

Her research in a special problems course “Design, Creativity and Innovation” earned two peer-reviewed conference presentations: “Mind the Gap: Amplifying Community Voices Through Human-Centered Design” at the University & College Designers Association’s Mindful Design Education Summit in Charlotte, and “Against the Tide or With It? Students and Community Navigating Human-Centered Design Collaborations” at the Southeastern College Art National Conference (SECAC) in Cincinnati. Additionally, her motion graphics piece “Obscura: A Moment’s Refrain” was featured in the SECAC Annual Juried Exhibition.

Schaller’s creative work has also received international acclaim. Her “Light Up Cowtown” poster won Gold at Graphis Design, the Hermes Creative Awards and will appear in the 2026 Graphis Design Annual magazine.
