Jack Benson orchestrated the fellowship as a heartfelt birthday surprise for his wife, Carol Tomkins Benson, MFA ’02, surrounded by their close friends and family. The gift will provide endowed support in perpetuity and enable School of Art graduates to develop their artistic and technical talents at TCU.

“Keeping the fellowship a secret was not the easiest thing I’ve done,” chuckled Jack Benson.

Endowment support ensures TCU can attract and compete for the most talented applicants and foster a diverse student population. This diversity enhances the preparation of all TCU students to engage with the global community in their personal lives and careers.

“The Carol Tomkins Benson ’02 MFA Fellowship will be awarded for as long as TCU is in existence, helping generations upon generations to come,” said Richard Lane, director of the School of Art.
