Woodwinds Audition Requirements

For entrance into the TCU School of Music and scholarship consideration, students are encouraged to audition in person before the TCU woodwind faculty. All applicants applying for a music minor or scholarship must audition.  A pre-screening video(s) is required for all applicants.

Flute (BM, BME, BA)

A prescreening video is required of all applicants. You will be notified if you advance to the audition round.

Prescreening Video Repertoire

  • a 1-3 minute recording of a solo without accompaniment as listed below in the Audition Repertoire

Audition Repertoire

  • Performance of two solos from the standard repertoire that demonstrates technical and lyrical ability. Could also be two contrasting movements from the same solo.
  • All Major scales and chromatic scale for the range of the instrument.
  • Pianist not required.
  • Length of audition is 10-15 minutes

Live auditions are recommended. If you cannot attend one of the live general audition dates, you may submit video audition recordings. You will have the option to upload videos different from those you submitted for the prescreening round.

NORDAN YOUNG ARTIST AWARD

Nordan auditions require a live audition. To be considered for the Nordan prescreening process, you will need to prepare repertoire as explained below.

Nordan Prescreening Repertoire

  • Please submit three contrasting selections of 3-5 minutes each.
  • These may be excerpts from longer works.
  • At least one selection must be recorded with piano.
  • No etudes please.
  • Scales will not be required if invited to the Nordan audition

Nordan Live Audition Repertoire

If accepted to the live round, you will need to prepare a 15-minute program consisting of three contrasting pieces.

  • This repertoire may be the same or different than what you submitted for the recorded round.
