At the Department of Design, you’ll grow intellectually and personally, gaining the specific knowledge and skills needed for a successful career. Our programs emphasize learning by doing, encouraging you to step outside the classroom and turn your ideas into action. 

To support students in securing positions, we host on-campus events where students interview directly with businesses for summer placements. These opportunities often lead to full-time positions after graduation.  

Internship Requirements:

• Duration: 10 weeks, supervised
• Timing: Summer, between junior and senior year
• Degrees: 
  • Graphic Design – Internship required
  • Interior Design – Internships required
  • Design Studies – Internship not required; student may apply to participate in the internship program through a portfolio review process. 

Graphic Design

Internships provide hands-on design experience in studios or advertising agencies, primarily in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. While many students intern locally, others have interned in cities such as: 

• Austin 
• Chicago 
• Los Angeles 
• London
• Miami
• New York
• Panama
• St. Louis
• Taiwan 

Interior Design

Students gain real-world experience with interior design, architecture and multi-disciplinary firms. Many choose to intern within the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. While many students intern locally, others have interned in cities such as:  

• Chicago
• Florence
• Houston
• London
• Los Angeles
• New York
• San Francisco
• Singapore
