This past summer, I interned with Cannon Media Group in New York City, where I had the opportunity to work closely with an editorial and styling team on fashion photo shoots and creative productions. I assisted on set, helped coordinate garments and accessories, and supported day-to-day production for both digital and print editorial projects. During my time there, I was able to be on set for shoots with major publications such as Harper's Bazaar and Vogue, with my personal favorite being a shoot featuring Coco Rocha for Chanel. This experience gave me an exciting behind-the-scenes look at the fashion industry and allowed me to be part of the creative process in a fast-paced New York fashion environment.

My name is Caroline Kunkel, and I had the incredible opportunity to be a studio production intern for Tuckernuck in Washington, D.C. this past summer. From day one, the Tuckernuck production team made me feel truly valued, inviting me into their work with care and purpose. Throughout the summer, I built meaningful relationships within the team and grew to love the fast-paced nature of production. My experience was highly hands-on, allowing me to observe and learn from incredibly talented professionals within the fashion industry. One of my favorite aspects of the internship was working with a smaller team to produce social media content, which allowed me to combine many of my creative interests. I even had the opportunity to be in a social media video at the Citi DC Open– an experience I will never forget! What excites me most is that I will be returning to Tuckernuck in July to join the team as a Production Assistant. Beyond the professional experience, navigating a new city pushed me to grow personally, strengthening my confidence and independence in ways that directly prepared me for this next chapter. I would encourage anyone to embrace opportunities that challenge them and push them outside of their comfort zone!

This past summer I had the opportunity to dive deep into the world of seasonal retail through my internship with Spencer’s and Spirit holdings as a spirit Christmas merchandising intern. My role included assisting buyers with daily tasks, contacting vendors, attending meetings, creating organized merchandising presentations, and updating product SKU data. Through my projects, I developed a strong understanding of how trends and data influence product selection. This internship prepared me for my final semester at tcu and entering my career post grad by providing a deeper understanding of the role of a buyer and how it intersects with other roles in the fashion industry.

During my internship as a Product Merchandising Intern at Lucchese Bootmaker, I gained hands-on experience working with a heritage luxury brand and saw how product decisions are made from both a creative and business standpoint. I assisted with assortment planning by analyzing sales data, reviewing product performance, and helping evaluate which styles and materials aligned best with the brand’s customer and seasonal direction. I was also fortunate to have an incredible mentor who guided me throughout the internship, answered my questions, and gave me opportunities to learn directly through real projects and team collaboration.

One of the most valuable parts of my experience was learning how to work with vendors and suppliers to help bring product visions to life. I gained a better understanding of the development process, material sourcing, and the level of communication and attention to detail required to maintain quality and brand standards. Throughout the internship, I worked closely with merchandising and product development teams, which strengthened my communication and organizational skills. This experience allowed me to apply what I have learned in my coursework to real-world situations and reinforced my interest in pursuing a career in product merchandising or development within the fashion industry.
