Graduate Funding
Art History
Graduate students in the art history program benefit from numerous funding opportunities. Each year, four to six applicants are awarded competitive research assistantships that waive the cost of tuition and include a stipend of up to $14,000 and 80% of the cost of health care. Among these stipends are the prestigious Kimbell Fellowships.
Research assistants are required to dedicate ten hours per week to service within
the School of Art.
Research Travel
Grants for research travel are also available on a competitive basis from the Mary Jane and Robert Sunkel Art History Endowment. The Sunkel Grants are awarded by the faculty through the Division of Art History three times a year. Recent Sunkel grants have funded graduate student travel to:
- New York
- Boston
- Budapest
- Washington D.C.
- Paris
- London
- Mexico
- Italy
- Cuba
Grants for research travel are also available on a competitive basis and are awarded
through the Dean’s Office and Office of Graduate Studies.
Studio Art
The School of Art provides four to six competitive research assistantships to master's students that waive the cost of tuition and include a stipend of up to $14,000 and 80% of the cost of health care.
Research assistants are required to dedicate ten hours per week to service within
the School of Art. Additionally, each graduate assistant is provided with a designated
studio space.
Research Travel
Grants for research travel are also available on a competitive basis and are awarded through the Dean’s Office and Office of Graduate Studies. In addition, at the beginning of the third year of study, graduates are given a fully funded 3-week residency in Tuscany Italy.
