Art in FLorence 2026
Join us for Renaissance Legacy: Exploring Art, Design and Culture, based primarily in Florence with additional excursions throughout Tuscany. The program is intentionally multidisciplinary and site-specific, bringing together perspectives from Studio Art and the Department of Design to explore the Renaissance's cultural, artistic and design legacy and its continued relevance today.
The curriculum is organized around immersive, on-site experiences. You will engage directly with the city, its landscapes, and its material culture through a series of short creative prompts, workshops, and guided explorations.

A central throughline of the program is learning through the senses — encouraging you to understand place through seeing, touching, listening, smelling, tasting and making.

Hands-on experiences include:
- observational drawing and mark-making
- bookbinding and craft-based workshops
- introductory 3D scanning as a way of digitally capturing form and surface
- perfume-making focused on scent and memory
- engagements with regional food culture as a lens for understanding material, ritual, and everyday design
These experiences are paired with site visits, walking studies and discussions that emphasize embodied learning and close observation.
