TCU School of Music is proud to announce that three of its programs have been selected to perform at various distinguished conventions and conferences in the 2019-20 academic year.
The TCU Percussion Orchestra and Ensembles will perform in Indianapolis at the Percussive Arts Society international convention in November as one of three university ensembles selected through a blind judging process. This leading international competition is held annually and is open to all percussion ensembles worldwide. Winners may only apply every three years, and TCU’s program has won five times in the last 15 years (in 2005, 2008, 2011, 2015 and 2019) under the direction of Dr. Brian A. West, professor of music and coordinator of percussion music.
Next spring, the TCU Wind Symphony will perform at the centennial Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) Annual Clinic & Convention in San Antonio, Texas. TMEA holds the largest music educators conference in the world with more than 29,000 attendees. Under the direction of Bobby R. Francis, director of bands, the Wind Symphony’s anticipated February 2020 performance at TMEA follows outstanding performances at the American Bandmasters Association and College Band Directors National Association in recent years.
The following month, the TCU Concert Chorale will perform at the Southwest Region Conference of the American Choral Directors Association in Little Rock, Ark. Selected through a blind judging process, the Concert Chorale submitted unedited recordings from the last three years to demonstrate consistency and excellence under the direction of Christopher Aspaas, associate professor and director of choral activities.
