TCU School of Music is proud to announce that the TCU Jazz Ensemble has been selected to perform at the 54th Montreux Jazz Festival, the world’s second largest jazz festival, during summer 2020. The Montreux Jazz Festival takes place annually along the shoreline of Lake Geneva in Montreux, Switzerland.
Under the direction of Professor Joe Eckert, the TCU Jazz Ensemble is comprised of a mix of 19 undergraduate and graduate students. The ensemble was competitively selected to perform at the festival by a panel of judges after submitting a video performance.
Only a few university ensembles are invited to perform at the festival each year.
“This will be a tremendous opportunity for our students to play in an international setting,” said Eckert. “Jazz music originated in the US, and I think the European audience at Montreux will be very receptive to our performance.”
The ensemble will travel to Switzerland to perform July 4 and 6, 2020.
The TCU Jazz Ensemble previously performed an the Montreux Jazz Festival in 1990 and 1999 under the direction of Curt Wilson, who is now director of jazz studies emeritus.
