2023-2024 Wind Symphony and Symphonic Bands Audition Information

Audition Dates are August 17 – 18, 2023. A more specific schedule to come!


Wind Symphony/Symphonic Band Audition Schedule

Times will be assigned during August marching band camp sectionals or by email. If you are not a member of the marching band but plan to be part of either ensemble, please email Sharie Owens or call 817-257-7640 to be assigned an audition time.

Links to the excerpts will be provided below. In addition to the excerpts, all 12 scales and chromatic must be prepared to perform from memory. Sight reading will be utilized when there is a tie for ensemble placement or as requested by the studio professor.

The TCU Jazz Ensemble Auditions

Auditions will consist of prepared music (see band website), sight-reading and improvisation.

MONDAY August 21
First rehearsal for both bands – there may be call backs taking place during the first day’s rehearsal, so please have both time slots available.

The audition process will follow the same format as in previous years.  The prepared music for all instrumentalists is posted below. Please have this material prepared for your audition in August.

Additionally, you’ll be asked to sight-read and improvise if you want to be considered for a “jazz” chair in one of the ensembles, with the exception of drumset, Sign-ups will be posted near the band office the week of August 14th. Please make sure to sign up for an audition time. It is the directors’ intention to have the bands set and rehearsing on the first day of classes (Monday, August 21).

Audition Music

ALL band scholarship students that play a jazz instrument are required to audition.

IMPORTANT: All jazz ensembles meet Monday-Wednesday-Friday. Mr. Eckert’s band (first band) meets from 12:00-12:50 in the Band Hall (MSC 115). Mr. Carter’s band (second band) meets in the Band Hall (MSC 115) from 1:00-1:50.
