TCU-Ex-Bandsmen Weekend - Friday-Saturday, August 30-31

EX-BANDSMEN WEEKEND

The Ex-Bandsmen Weekend is a series of events to engage with past TCU band members and connect them together. One way we’re doing so is with a reception Friday evening where we’ll enjoy dinner, live music, and the induction of our newest Band of Fame member. Then join us as we rehearse with the current marching band and special guests, Boston Brass, to prepare for an exciting half time show! Continue reading to learn more about the weekend and how to sign up.

FAQ

Is this the same as the homecoming activities? In addition to TCU Ex-Bandsmen Weekend replacing what had traditionally been done on homecoming weekend, we are adding a Friday night reception for Band Alumni. By moving our band activities to the beginning of football season, it is our hopes that more band directors who would normally be unable to attend with fall contests can join us for Saturday’s game. This also frees up your homecoming weekend to attend other TCU Alumni events.

Why do I need to buy a ticket? Friday’s Dinner/Reception at the Alumni Center is a new event that we are hoping to repeat annually. The ticket costs cover your dinner, a weekend-specific t-shirt, and a small portion of the expense that Boston Brass’s residency is costing the Band Department. There will be a cash bar. You do not need to buy a ticket if you cannot make it to the Friday night reception. Instead, please register for Saturday’s activities here:

What’s for dinner? Catering is by The Hamburger Man (a locally owned and operated company) and there will be a Hamburger buffet with all the fixin’s, and chicken and veggie burger options to accommodate other diets. There will be mac ‘n cheese, fruit salad, chips, and desserts to go along with dinner. Alcohol can be purchased from the cash bar.

What if I can’t make it Friday night? You might miss rehearsal and the awesome dinner party we’re throwing, but that doesn’t mean you can’t join us on Saturday! Please be sure to come to the rehearsal on the field at 3pm to rehearse with Boston Brass and the TCU Marching Band if you intend on marching half time with us. Order your shirt by completing the instrument questionnaire and bringing $10 when you pick up your shirt.

Will I need a football ticket? YES! If you are a season pass holder, you do not need to purchase anything additional; you will use your ticket like normal. If you do not have a ticket to Saturday’s game, you will not be granted admission to the stadium for Pre-Game, sitting with the band, or Half-Time festivities. You can buy any general admission ticket through other vendors, or TCU Alumni has set up this link for us to purchase tickets.

Can I practice my music ahead of time? Yes, please do! Music will be uploaded to this site and emailed out to participants who bought tickets in August.

I’m ready to play my instrument now! What can I do? Great idea! Get those chops ready, and help us promote the event by recording yourself playing the fight song! Learn more here: Fight Song Compilation

Is Friday night’s event “kid-friendly”? We won’t turn you away with children, but please consider we don’t have kid pricing for tickets or kid sizes for shirts. If your children are small enough to share your plate, then no extra ticket is necessary. If your children are older, please consider buying an extra ticket for each plate. We will consider making the dinner/reception more kid-friendly in future years based on feedback in our suggestion box which will be posted at the Alumni Center for Friday’s reception!
