Graphic Design Qualifying Portfolio Examinations
The initial Graphic Design Qualifying Portfolio Examination exam is held for students who have completed ARGD 20323—Typography I and wish to continue in graphic design. A portfolio of work completed in Typography I is submitted for examination by the Graphic Design Faculty. Successful completion of this examination is required for any student wishing to continue in the Graphic Design Program. Ranking of qualified portfolios will determine if the student is invited to pursue the BFA in Graphic Design or the BS in Design Studies.
Junior- and Senior-Level Qualifying Portfolio Examinations
All Graphic Design majors participate in an annual faculty examination of their progress from the previous academic year. This exam identifies strengths and weaknesses in each student’s portfolio as a way to encourage and assisting improving the overall breadth, variety and quality of work in preparation for a graphic design career.

Interior Design Qualifying Portfolio Examinations
Interior Design Pre-Majors are required to participate in a qualifying portfolio examination in the spring of the first year in the program. Students submit pre-designated projects from the first year interior design courses. This procedure provides assessment of the body of work as a whole, outside of the grading processes in individual courses. Through the portfolio examination process, the Interior Design faculty assess the skill sets to determine a student’s aptitude for success in the program.
