Laura Logan Brandenburg has served on the Texas Christian University School of Music faculty since 2001, where she teaches harp and harp pedagogy, coaches the TCU Harp Ensemble and is Director of the TCU Summer Harp Workshop. In addition, she maintains an active pre-college studio through the TCU Music Prep Department, teaching students age five through young adult.
She is a founding member and serves as director of the Octavia Harp Ensemble, performing in the Dallas-Fort Worth area and beyond for the past 20 plus years. The ensemble has released two recordings on the Traditional Sounds label and has commissioned and premiered several new works for harp ensemble. A highly regarded free-lance harpist, Laura currently serves as Principal Harp with the Lewisville Lake Symphony. She held the position of Principal Harp with the Richardson Symphony Orchestra from 1990 – 2010. For many summers during that time, she enjoyed returning to New Orleans to play Principal Harp with the acclaimed Tulane Summer Lyric Theatre. She also served as Principal Harp in the Oklahoma City Philharmonic (1995-1997) and has played second harp numerous times with the Fort Worth Symphony, the Fort Worth Opera and with The Dallas Opera, where she was privileged to perform the entire Wagner Ring Cycle. Her recent adventures on harp include concertizing with Jeff Walters as The Logan/Walters Harp Duo, performing all original transcriptions and arrangements for two harps.
Active as a camp clinician specializing in harp ensemble repertoire, Laura was founder and director of the popular HarpFire summer camp from 2001 – 2010. She has conducted ensembles, commissioned new works for harp ensemble, and presented workshops for the American Harp Society in Dallas, the AHS Summer Institutes of 2011 and 2015, the Harp in Worship Conference, Harp Journeys, and Harp Journeys Youth Festival. The TCU Summer Harp Workshop was inaugurated in 2012 and has grown to be a well-respected addition to the local and regional field of summer harp camp experiences.
Laura has been privileged to work closely with many fine contemporary composers and has been the honoree of two commissioned works for harp and organ: Passacaglia by Joel Martinson was premiered in 1995 and Legend by Charles Callahan was premiered in 2000. In 2015, she had the pleasure of performing the winning composition of the American Harp Society in Dallas Composer Competition, Sketches for Harp by Israeli composer Na’ama Tamir.
