McKie Trotter III: SCAPES: Panel Discussion

Selected works by McKie Trotter III (1918-1999), Fort Worth Circle Artist and TCU Professor

Moudy Art Gallery, Texas Christian University
January 18 – February 8, 2018
Panel Discussion, January 23, 5:30pm

McKie Trotter III: SCAPES presents a selection of mid-twentieth-century abstract colorist McKie Trotter’s paintings, prints, and works on paper. “Scape” is a term Trotter used as, and in, titles for many of his compositions. Although best known for his abstract paintings, the exhibition shows Trotter moving between his solid grounding in representational drawing and his experiments with abstraction, in a variety of techniques.

As a Fort Worth Circle artist, McKie Trotter played an important role in furthering the modernist sensibilities taking hold here and nationally during the middle decades of the twentieth century. As a Texas Christian University professor of art from 1954 to 1988, Trotter influenced innumerable students by encouraging them to pursue quality and individuality. He likely would be pleased that five current TCU MA art history students curated this exhibition: Dery Martinez, Nicole McKowen, Alexis Meldrum, Ashton Smyth, and Tessa ter Horst.

Moudy Gallery is located in Moudy North Building TCU’s Campus, 2805 S. University Dr., Fort Worth. Gallery Hours are Monday – Friday, 11 a.m.-4 p.m., Saturday 1 -4 p.m. and by appointment. Admission is free.
