The Art Galleries at TCU present the 2019 Annual Juried Student Exhibition from February 21 – 28, 2019 at Moudy Gallery.  This year’s jurors are acclaimed DFW artists Letitia and Sedrick Huckaby.

Submission to this exhibition is open to all TCU students and a wide range of works are accepted including painting, photography, video, drawing, sculpture, audio, ceramics, and installation. The jurors, Letitia and Sedrick Huckaby, will select works for the exhibition and present awards including “Best in Show” sponsored by the Fort Worth Art Dealers Association, during the opening reception and awards presentation on Thursday, February 21st, from 5 – 7pm.

Letitia and Sedrick Huckaby are contemporary artists living and working in Benbrook, TX.  Letitia was trained as a photojournalist and utilizes photography in her current practice.  The basic premise behind her work is faith, family and legacy. It is a time capsule for the African-American experience. Letitia is interested in how the past relates to the present, and whether or not things have change or remain the same.

Letitia obtained her Master’s degree from the University of North Texas in 2010, and has exhibited as an emerging artist at the Dallas Contemporary, Renaissance Fine Art in Harlem, the Texas Biennial at Blue Star Contemporary Art Museum, and the Anzenberger Gallery in Vienna, Austria. Letitia’s work is included in several prestigious collections; the Library of Congress, the Art Museum of Southeast Texas, and the Samella Lewis Contemporary Art Collection at Scripps College in Claremont, California. Letitia is represented by the Liliana Bloch Gallery in Dallas Texas and the Anzenberger Gallery in Vienna, Austria.

The African-American family and its heritage has also been a focus of Sedrick’s work for several years. In large-scale portraits of family and friends he works to magnify ordinary people by painting them on a monumental scale.

Sedrick’s formal education in art started at Texas Wesleyan University, where he studied with Ron Tomlinson and Jack Barnett. He then transferred to Boston University (BFA, 1997), where he received extensive academic training in studio art. For graduate studies, he went to Yale University (MFA, 1999). Sedrick has been the recipient of numerous prestigious awards including a Guggenheim award, Joan Mitchell Foundation Grant and a Lewis Comfort Tiffany Award.  His works are in the collections of American Embassy in Namibia, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Amon Carter Museum of American Art, Minneapolis Institute of Arts, Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University, Whitney Museum of American Art, and the Tyler Museum of Art.  Most recently Sedrick was named the Texas State Artist for 2018.  (http://huckabystudios.com).
